A WHOLE day at the DR.s

Today we had to take our son to the surgeon for a check up to see when to schedule the surgery for what we were told was ANOTHER hernia! When the surgeon came in, after 1 1/2 HOURS of waiting......ugh......he examines my little man (such a brave boy) and says that he wants to order an ultrasound immediately because he didn't know what the cause of this condition exactly was....and it didn't seem to be a hernia as suspected by our other DR.

Took him to the hospital for ultrasound and when the laid him on the table (darkened the lights), put the gown on, he FREAKS!! He was sooooo scared (not like my Ben). Maddie was there too and wanted to know what they were going to do to her brother....yikes.

I spent about 8 very long minutes trying to convince him, "it's alright sweetie, mommy is right here". He just couldn't relax. The techs were being patient and trying their best also. Finally, I got him more relaxed and then the Surgeon came in and Ben had just seen him so he was better then. Keep in mind: the ultrasound was being done on his "testicles" (can you imagine????). He was nervous and maybe a bit embarrassed we suppose.

Conclusion: The Dr.'s conclusion was that it wasn't a hernia. He somehow has this Epidemitis? or something like that. It's an infection (viral? or maybe bacterial? ) that has housed it's messy fluid in our son's.............!!!! The ultrasound showed his left side as being full of "debris" or infection and his right side was clear. Not sure how this happened and we have to continue to watch the area closely. Any changes in him, and rush back to DR. He said that this tends to show up more in teen boys who have been exposed to the Mumps!!!! WHAT??!!

I had many questions, and left somewhat confused as to how did this occur and why? He told us to just wait this out and see what may happen. Sounds great......

Also, he checked my son's VP shunt (tube placed inside his brain when he was 30 days old) and said that it wasn't pumping anymore.....o.k. what does THAT mean? He said he needed to check with our neurosurgeon on this issue. The results: As long as he doesn't show any other signs of distress, headaches, fever, sick in general, then it could be that he doesn't need the shunt anymore....Praise God. He will still have to live with it inside him for his life unless he gets an infection.......yikes...hope NOT. There are some unknowns, but hey.....that's LIFE too.

We have to trust that God knows best at all times. We've been blessed with him from the beginning and he has proven to be our miracle time and time again.

It was a very long day, but we leave thankful that no surgery is needed for now.

Sorry you had to spend so long with doctors, etc. That's not fun, and it's not fun seeing the ones we love scared or in pain :( At least they are able to find out what is causing this though!
